HOMEWORK POLICY
As your child’s teachers, our main goal is to help your child learn to be an independent, lifelong learner. To reach this goal, we will meet your child from where he/she is at academically and guide them as far as possible. In order to accomplish these goals, we have developed a homework policy to help the students and parents stay connected with your child’s learning in the classroom.
Homework is an important part of the educational program at each grade level. Homework assignments which are meaningful and have a clear purpose offer you a key communication tool about your child’s attainment of the content standards. Please encourage your child to do homework independently, all homework is explained during class time, so there should be little confusion once your child is home. However, please be available if needed to advise and help.
Your child will have homework Monday through Friday every week. Parents should be checking homework every night to make sure it is complete and sign their homework log to let us know that you checked your child’s homework.
Every student will have a homework log. This will be a form in which students will write down their homework assignments. Please check your child’s homework log every day so you are aware of what they are doing in school.
We feel that homework should be a reinforcement of what is learned during the day. Math may look different each day depending on what we feel the class needs to focus on. Some days it might be a typical homework sheet of ten problems and others it may just be one problem with many steps. Reading every night is not only important to help students improve, but to help develop a passion for books. Your child’s homework should typically take between 60-90 minutes maximum a night. This should include 30 minutes of independent reading in either English or Mandarin.
Homework needs to be neat, complete, legible, and turned in on time to receive full credit. We are looking forward to a great year with you and your child. Teamwork is very important for the success of the child.
